You’ll also find two charming heart shapes to inspire your original creations.
This set has within it my #1 favorite Procreate original watercolour brushes designed to enhance your artwork, designed by myself to work exactly like the real thing. I have also added a rough canvas brush for texture, a collage brush for a playful touch, a blotches and spatter brush for adding depth, a coarse salt texture for a unique finish, and my personal favorite—a blending brush that blends colors seamlessly, my watercolour blenderific brush.
Getting Started:
Begin by opening a new document in Procreate or Affinity Designer. If you're aiming for a greeting card design, I recommend setting your canvas to a 5x7 ratio. In Procreate, I usually start my illustrations at 10 x 14 to maintain high quality when resizing.
Importing Your Graphic:
- For Procreate: Import the heart graphic as a RASTER file using the "Insert" function under the wrench icon. Create a new layer above it and set it as a clipping mask.
- For Affinity Designer: Open the VECTOR file (the .afd file), which will serve as your clipping mask, allowing you to paint directly onto a pixel layer within the SVG.
Creating Your Artwork:
In Procreate, use any brush to fill in colors on the clipping mask layer. You’ll notice an arrow appearing, linking it to the layer below—an essential part of the process.
Experiment with the Stain Edge Blend brush to achieve a beautiful watercolor effect. Alternatively, draw circles of color and apply Gaussian Blur for a soft blending that brings your piece to life.
Next, introduce your wood background by either importing the supplied texture or using the textured brush from the Procreate set.
Final Touches:
To achieve a watercolor-driven finish, add the supplied watercolor texture. Place it in a layer above all others and set the blending mode to Linear Burn for a rich texture application across your artwork.
For an even more delicate background, consider using the Watercolour Scraggly Wet Mixer 2 Color Brush—perfect for adding that special touch! Practice with all the brushes to see what you can achieve
